About Develop West Prince

Develop West Prince is a non-profit community economic development organization working throughout the Westisle Family of Schools region of Western PEI from our office in Alberton. The organization sees West Prince as a thriving and diverse community with an economy that encourages people to live, work, and prosper in the region. Our goal is to work with communities and non-profits as an advocate, driver, and collaborator to foster growth and prosperity, facilitate strategic infrastructure, and carry out regional initiatives.

Areas of Work

Over the past three years the organization has carried out a regional housing study to support housing creation, supported non-profits develop strategic recreational and community infrastructure, created partnerships with municipalities to support projects of economic interest, and forged partnerships with various sector organizations.

Moving into 2025 Develop West Prince will carry out the following activities:

• Lead the creation of a Community Energy and Emissions Plan for Western PEI
• Support community organizations through asset-based community development workshops and carry out relating initiatives.
• Partner in further developing tourism product in Western PEI.
• Support development within municipalities.

The Ask

Develop West Prince seeks passionate individuals to volunteer and join the organization’s board of directors. We seek to create a board that is representative of the Western Region and the communities and populations that make it such a wonderful place to live, work, and play.

Details

Develop West Prince’s board is primarily focused on governance of the organization with opportunity for input, advice, and guidance offered to project staff. Management – consisting of a full time Executive Director, Kildare Lodge General Manager, and program staff/summer students carry out the daily functions of the organization.

Board meetings are normally held once a month with the exception of July, August, and December. The May meeting is normally the annual meeting of the organization. The majority of board meetings have been held online via Zoom in the evening on dates/times that work for the majority of members. Meetings are normally 1-1.5 hours depending on the depth of the agenda.

From time-to-time directors may be asked to join subcommittees to support specific tasks. This could include nominations, meetings with funders, or steering committees for areas of specific interest. These additional commitments are voluntary and based on individual availability.
